Saju Jirugi

Saju Jirugi
This is a basic exercise designed to teach students basic stances, blocks, and strikes that will prepare them to learn concepts that help them to be proficient in White Belt techniques.This is also known as the "four direction block" exercise. It is a preparatory exercise taught to beginning students before they learn the traditional ITF patterns such as Chon Ji.

*Start with the right side
Start Position-Junbi
1. Move the right foot to D forming a right walking stance toward D while executing a middle punch to D with the right fist.
2. Move the right foot to A forming a left walking stance toward B while executing a low block to B with the left forearm.
3. Move the right foot to B forming a right walking stance toward B while executing a middle punch to B with the right fist.
4. Move the right foot to D forming a left walking stance toward C while executing a low block to C with the left forearm.
5. Move the right foot to C forming a right walking stance toward C while executing a middle punch to C with the right fist.
6. Move the right foot to B forming a left walking stance toward A while executing a low block to A with the left forearm.
7. Move the right foot to A forming a right walking stance toward A while executing a middle punch to A with the right fist.
*Repeat the exercise on the other side.  Start with the left side. 

Learning Steps(insert video with exercises and narration, along with tips)
1. Practice the exercise 3 times focusing on punching and blocking in the correct directions
2. Practice the exercise 3 times focusing on the correct chamber before executing techniques
3. Practice the exercise 3 times focusing on correct breathing.  Inhale on the chamber. Exhale when executing the block/strike.

Tips
  • Perform the techniques to all four directions
  • Turn in the opposite direction of the attacking hand
  • The opposite foot of the attacking hand stays in the same spot
